(Update: May 12, 2025)

GENERAL
WHEN AND WHERE DOES VIENNA SHORTS 2025 TAKE PLACE?
- VIENNA SHORTS 2025 will take place from May 27 to June 1 in its regular cinemas Gartenbaukino, Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus and METRO Kinokulturhaus. Selected programs will also be shown at the mobile Milieukino, the Austrian Film Museum, the mumok cinema and open air at the MuseumsQuartier and the Ovalhalle (bad weather alternative).
WHY ARE THERE FEW PRINTED MATERIALS?
- This year, VIENNA SHORTS proudly carries the Austrian Ecolabel for the fourth time and implements large parts of the festival as certified Green Events. This entails numerous criteria and measures, from the selection of venues to resource-efficient equipment and printing materials. All printed materials are produced with minimal resource usage: low print runs and double-sided copies. Instead of a printed catalog, we offer a digital alternative through our app (available for Android and iOS).
ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL
HOW DOES VISITING THE FESTIVAL WORK?
- Super relaxed and hopefully still very stimulating! Here you can find an overview of our venues. Click here for the schedule & tickets. If you would like to meet us in person, we will be there for you daily from May 27 to June 1 from 11:30 to 17:30 at the guest counter in the Festival Center (Room D in the MuseumsQuartier). If you have any questions along the way, you can contact the box office staff in the venues at any time.
HOW DO I IDENTIFY FILM AND INDUSTRY GUESTS AS WELL AS TEAM MEMBERS?
- All accredited participants will receive exclusive VIENNA SHORTS bags made of high-quality organic cotton. In addition, industry guests and our team will once again wear badges printed on environmentally friendly cardboard this year. Our staff will be available during venue opening hours and at the festival center in MuseumsQuartier (Room D). Our industry receptions are designed as ideal icebreakers for networking.
IS THE FESTIVAL ACCESSIBLE? IN WHICH LANGUAGE ARE THE FILMS SCREENED?
- We make every effort to keep the barriers to attending the festival as low as possible. With the exception of the Milieukino in the converted truck, which is not yet barrier-free, at least one wheelchair space is offered in every cinema. The accompanying person will receive a free ticket. For tickets, please send us a short e-mail.
- Gartenbaukino, Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, METRO Kinokulturhaus and Österreichisches Filmmuseum are equipped with inductive hearing systems. All films at the festival are presented in the original version with English subtitles - in many cases even if the spoken language is English. Details on accessibility can be found on the Venues page.
We look forward to your feedback and suggestions as to which additional inclusion offers you would like to see from VIENNA SHORTS in the future (fair@viennashorts.com)
TICKETS & SCREENINGS
HOW DO I GET TICKETS?
- There are four ways to do this: via our festival app (Android, iOS), via our website from May 8, 2025, at the box offices on site, or at the MQ Infopoint. Tickets purchased via the app or website are digital tickets with a QR code that you can use to go directly to the entrance. These are available for Gartenbaukino, Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, METRO Kinokulturhaus, mumok and Österreichisches Filmmuseum and are available at staggered ticket prices. For the opening and the award ceremony, tickets purchased in advance must be collected from the box office on the day of the event. You can find more information on prices here.
- Tickets for the Milieukino are only available at the box office on site. Please make sure you are there in good time! There are only 15 seats in the converted truck. Refunds are not possible. The Milieukino films are also available on This is Short.
- All people under the age of 19, holders of the nonstop cinema subscription, people with a culture pass as part of the Hunger for Art and Culture initiative, those currently completing a “Voluntary Social Year” or refugees with ID, can attend all screenings free of charge (as long as seats are available). You can also exchange your mumok ticket purchased between May 27 and June 1 for a one-way ticket. These tickets are only available at the box offices on site.
HOW DO I GET TICKETS IF I HAVE A FESTIVAL PASS?
- Festival passes and accreditations are linked to your account. As soon as a pass holder or accredited person is logged into the festival, one ticket can be purchased for each performance.
- Reserving a ticket is necessary in order to attend a performance and can be done via the schedule on the website or app. If you have not reserved a ticket in advance, you can use the QR code on your pass to purchase a ticket directly at the box office of Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, METRO Kinokulturhaus, mumok kino and Österreichisches Filmmuseum. Please only use this option in an exceptional case!
- If the ticket is not used after all, please cancel the ticket under “My tickets”.
DO I NEED TO REGISTER FOR AN OPEN-AIR PROGRAM?
- No registration is required for the open-air programs. Please arrive early to secure a seat. Admission is free for outdoor screenings.
CAN I STILL ENTER THE CINEMA IF I'M LATE?
- Tickets remain valid. However, we kindly ask you to arrive on time to avoid disrupting the screenings.
