ON LIVING TOGETHER: ONYEKA IGWE

Onyeka Igwe (*1986, United Kingdom) is a moving image artist and researcher. Her work deals with the question: how do we live together? Without offering rigid answers, she emphasizes the nuances of community and coexistence. At the center of her practice are Britain’s colonial past, social collectives and forms of protest, cultural memory and the diaspora. She works with archival material and existing narratives, which—through rhythmic editing and close attention to the relationship between image and sound—become complex, multilayered films. At the festival, we are dedicating one of our portrait programs to her, in collaboration with the Austrian Film Museum and the Secession.
