THE WINNERS OF THE AUSTRIAN COMPETITION

THE WINNERS OF THE AUSTRIAN COMPETITION

In the Austrian Competition, Amina Krami triumphed with Der Badeanzug (The Swimsuit) for her sensitive portrayal of a young girl's first tentative steps into adolescence, winning the Austrian Short Film Award. "The ensemble gently guides us through the bittersweet transition from carefree play to the perception of a more complex, adult world," the jury proudly declared. With this award, Krami qualifies for both the Oscars and the Austrian Film Award.

Nicolás Pindeus received the Jury Prize for Best Newcomer for Die letzten Menschen (The Last People): "In powerful black-and-white images, the film captures the hopelessness of a stalled generation: an unfulfilled love, an outbreak of violence driven by jealousy and loneliness – and a young man clinging to something that is already falling apart."

World at Stake by the collective Total Refusal (Susanna Flock, Jona Kleinlein, Adrian Jonas Haim) received an Honorable Mention for its unconventional and critical engagement with the existential questions of Western societies.
