THE WINNERS OF ANIMATION AVANTGARDE

THE WINNERS OF ANIMATION AVANTGARDE

In the International Animation Avant-Garde Competition, Sasha Svirsky impressed the jury and won the ASIFA Austria Award with Dull Spots of Greenish Colours, a work that not only transcended the boundaries of screen and skin but also captivated with its radical vision. “This radical animation presents an eerie interweaving of corporeality and militarized technologies,” the jury emphasized, highlighting the “layers of overwhelm and numbness.” With this win, Svirsky qualifies for both the Oscars and the European Film Award.

Canadian filmmaker Nicolas Brault received the Jury Prize for Outstanding Artistic Achievement for Mémoire entropique (Entropic Memory). The animated work confronts us with the fragility of the past, revealing deeply personal layers and guiding viewers through the abstract process of digging through memory.

An Honorable Mention went to Im Dickicht (In the Thicket) by Austrian director Katharina Pichler for its cultivated atmosphere of quiet unease, as well as its reflection and historical exploration of the complexity of memory, perception, and the cinematic apparatus.
