THE WINNERS OF FICTION & DOCUMENTARY
The politically fragmented documentary راز دل (Razeh-del) by Iranian director Maryam Tafakory won the Grand Prizein the International Fiction & Documentary Competition, thereby also qualifying for the Oscars. “A film that reflects on the power, the limits, and the struggles of representation,” stated the jury. Tafakory addresses resistance against the patriarchal regime and the oppression of women in Iran, while also creating space for female visions and rebellionwithin Iranian cinema.
The Jury Prize for Best Cinematography was awarded to Coeur Bleu (Blue Heart) by Samuel Suffren for its cinematic precision and its ability to capture unspoken emotions. The jury was impressed by its unexpected perspectives, vivid mise-en-scène, striking soundscapes, and strong color compositions.
An Honorable Mention went to Man Number 4 by British filmmaker Miranda Pennell, which challenges our numbed perception and confronts us with the reality of an ongoing genocide.
