For the 18th edition of VIENNA SHORTS we received just over 4,500 short films from 130 countries. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all filmmakers who produced films last year despite worldwide restrictions due to the pandemic and who have now also submitted them.

Almost two-thirds of all submissions were received for the international competition FIDO Fiction & Documentary for fictional and documentary films under 30 minutes. Around 700 films are previewed for the international AA Animation Avantgarde competition, while the two Austrian competitions account for a total of around 400 films and music videos. In the non-competitive section, around 250 works were submitted.

Each year, the festival screens around 35 productions in each of the two international competition categories, and around 15 to 25 films in each of the two national categories. A total of almost 20,000 euros in prize money is awarded. The winners can also qualify for the Oscars, the BAFTA, the European Film Award and the Austrian Film Award.
