THE WINNERS OF THE AUSTRIAN MUSIC VIDEO AWARD
Vienna directors Ioan Gavriel and Fjodor Carl Kelling received the 14th Austrian Music Video Award this Friday evening at the METRO Kinokulturhaus in Vienna for "Bubblegum", the energetic club anthem by pioneer of feminist hip hop Dafina Sylejmani alias Dacid Go8lin. The explosive track addresses protest and resistance — power dynamics are reversed and the message is crystal clear. The music video by Ioan Gavriel and Fjodor Carl Kelling is both a battle cry and an act of liberation: gender roles are rewritten and the visual clichés of patriarchal media are turned upside down. Space is claimed for queer joy and self-determination. At the celebratory award ceremony as part of the international short film festival VIENNA SHORTS, Ioan Gavriel and Fjodor Carl Kelling were awarded a prize of €2,500 by the international jury from the Vienna Film and Music Industry (FIMU). Their video is also automatically qualified for the Austrian Film Award 2026 and the European Music Video Competition at the Oulu Music Video Festival in Finland.
The Jury's Honourable Mention went to Sabrina Norte from Vienna for her music video "Inside" by Aygyul, a musician oscillating between electronic and future pop. The video of the captivating song wraps queer intimacy in a warm and sensual play of colours. Red accents dominate the visual language as we observe the protagonists in tender and decidedly heated encounters within their own four walls. "The video captivated us immediately and truly impressed us with its portrayal of queer love and its execution," said the jury.
The Audience Award went to Chingona – Tamara Flores directed by Rupert Höller.
13 music videos were nominated for the Music Video Award this year.
