Submissions for the 15th anniversary edition

Starting October 11, submissions for the 15th edition of VIS Vienna Shorts are open. On the occasion of the jubilee and growing interest in virtual reality and 360° film, the festival is now also looking for immersive works besides short films, animation and music videos.

With VR the world, we want to re-explore the world, which viewers - so to speak - internalize with the help of their VR glasses. Therefore we are looking for films that explore the possibilities of virtual reality in ways which challenge our most basic perceptions and ideas about visual language, storytelling, participation and voyeurism.

Other than that the competitions haven’t changed. In Fiction & Documentary we are looking forward to international short film both fiction and documentary, for Animation Avantgarde to international works from the field of animation, experimental film, digital media and video art. Meanwhile native filmmakers are also called upon to submit for both the widely-varied Austrian competition or the Austrian music video competition. International music videos and music films are met with open eyes and ears during the Screensessions.

In addition to the main and secondary prizes awarded by a jury of established professionals in the individual competitions, three additional "jury awards" are granted across the categories, each of which will send one fiction, one documentary and one animated film to the Oscars. Furthermore the two Austrian winning films qualify for the Austrian Filmpreis.

Submissions are open until January 4th, the late deadline is January 31st. The Competition Selection will be officially communicated mid-April.
