Burning Palace

Austria 2009, 32 min, language: English
The body as an eternally burning palace: Mara Mattuschkas fourth collaboration with choreographer Chris Haring is sometimes evocative of David Lynch, while mostly remaining a blurred play of deceit. A dance performance in a hotel as a cinematic spectacle.

Running Sushi

Austria 2008, 28 min, language: German, English
A film made up of a dialog between two people. Steffi and Johnny are in a running sushi restaurant. The first conversation soon explodes into a performative parallel world of unspoken thoughts and emotions. Every coming sushi evokes a story from the unconscious repertoire of the chaos of human relationships. Wish-machines are cranked up, creating grotesque parallel worlds and extreme situations.

The search for fame’s elevator goes up and down, the ego’s bust and boom. Each character is isolated in his or her anachronistic, film-star dressing room, left alone, subjected to the sinister fittings: a hopelessly out-dated microphone, radio, crutches for communication. - Together with Chris Haring.

Königin der Nacht

Austria 2006, 1 min, language: without dialogue
Without any kind of warning or introduction, the Queen of the Night’s aria explodes as rock music of its time. The famous coloratura parts are as ecstatic as a sung orgasm. The Queen of the Night sings women’s names: She is all women, she addresses them all by name. A call and an appeal. Like a hurricane, a night owl, a sexual diva, she flies toward the camera before a starry night sky with a full moon.
