FM4 Small Screen Stories

A subjective music video retrospective by Stefan Trischler and Christian Fuchs.
What do short music films, commonly known as “video clips” reveal about the every day culture, aesthetics and technology of an era? An attempt at organising videos from the never properly named last decade, with the help of carefully selected music video gems - including clips outside the already well known “director’s” canon of Mssrs. Gondry, Jonze, Cunningham & Co.
Following an invitation from VIS, FM4 associates Stefan Trischler and Christian Fuchs took a subjective trip through the last music video decade. The goal was to find those clips that didn’t only impress on a musical visual level, but stood out both in images and in sound. And that could still bring off a correlating form or narrative, despite the music’s exact temporal restrictions. These “small screen stories” now have the chance of also thrilling us on the big screen.
