The exhibition CHIRAL by Robert Seidel is open to the public since May 10, 2012 at the ASIFAkeil. At his tfm FOKUS presentation "Faltungen - film inbetween painting and sculpture" on May 16, 2012 in Raum D/quartier 21, the Artist in Residence of VIS Vienna Independent Shorts 2012 will present some of his diverse works and let us look behind the scene of his worklife and his ideas behind it.

VIS warm-up with two great teaser events: for the first time ever we'll have two events before the festival which will make you lust for the VIS 2012. We start with our airbed movie award on June 2, 2012 in the Rinderhalle Neu Marx and will then present two guest programmes from our partner festivals L'Alternativa from Barcelona and Anima Mundi from Rio de Janeiro/Sao Paulo in the MuseumsQuartier on June 4.

We are going to push boundaries this year - the bounds of demonstration, perception and experience. Four special programmes will deal with perversion and subversion, provocation and censorhip, physical cinema and the influence of commerce on art. Martin Scorsese, Jean Genet, Valie Export and Len Lye are only a few of many well-known names that can be found in these programmes.

In the midst of 61 films in the international and 18 films in the national competition we will also show three world premieres, and nearly 50 Austrian and numerous Viennese premieres. The films, which will all be shown on the 120 square metres screen in the Gartenbaukino, have the chance to win prices worth nearly 19,000 euro (thus about 6,000 euro more than last year).

It may seem a little fractious, okay. And yes it is also fuelled with a fancy trash chic. Nevertheless we started to love this years’ poster subject, a unicorn with laser eyes. The skinny unicorn will be present in the whole city of Vienna to celebrate this years’ different festival edition. And its green laser beams should symbolize that we are not willing to back down.
