This year’s festival edition focuses on “New Communities”. Therefore VIS Vienna Independent Shorts tries to create a new network between festivals, directors and visitors.

The World Wide Web offers a lot of possibilities for collaborations like Around the World in 4 Festivals. When one thinks about reaching a wide audience, the first thought is always the Internet: Social networks like Facebook or YouTube grew an indispensable part of our society. And this is also the principal consideration on which the project is based.

Around the World in 4 Festivals is an experiment which we try out for the first time. Partner festivals are offered the opportunity to present themselves, their festival or institution on our website. Short films from their past programmes complete the project. It was important for our collaboration partners to choose directors or films who are part of online communities or work with them.

Four Festivals from four countries and three continents are part of the project. The continents are Europe, South America, and Asia, the representatives are Regensburger Kurzfilmwoche (Germany), Molodist (Ukraine), Belo Horizonte International Short Film Festival (Brazil) and Komunitas Dokumenter (Indonesia).
